Woman charged with setting fire to mattress in furniture store

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) – A Blair County woman is facing multiple charges after authorities say she set fire to a mattress in a furniture store.

Logan Township police said Denys Nicole Rose, 44, of Altoona, set fire to a mattress Wednesday at Value City Furniture in the 3000 block of Pleasant Valley Boulevard.

“It appears she took a lighter and lit the mattress on fire,” said Chief Tim Mercer.

Police said employees rushed to the fire. They tried to put it out, but Rose was in the way.

“She grabbed a hold of the mattress and wouldn’t let it go,” Mercer said.

The manager extinguished the fire and everyone left the store.

“Kudos to outdoor ideas the store employees for their quick thinking,” Mercer said.

Police said that when they arrived, Rose became agitated and combative.

She was arrested and taken to the Blair County Prison.

Rose is facing charges of arson, causing or rising a catastrophe, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
